Yoga is a form of mindful exercise designed to create a balance of strength and flexibility in the body and the mind. By practising the physical postures of yoga regularly we learn how to sit, stand and move more efficiently, and to be more comfortable in our bodies.
As well as working on a physical level, yoga also helps us to cultivate a centred, relaxed state of mind in which we are fully present to what we are experiencing. In modern times this centred, relaxed state of presence has come to be known as mindfulness.
There is nothing magical or mystical about mindfulness. It is simply the opposite of being absorbed in our own mental chatter. As well as being an effective remedy for stress, this cultivation of mindful presence is also an important part of the preparation for the practice of meditation.
Meditation is the practice of turning the mind inwards to observe itself. This allows us to learn about our minds and how they work. Through this learning we discover not only how to reduce our reactivity and tame our negative tendencies, but also how to maximise our strengths in order to reach our full potential.
Yoga at MYM Wellness
MYM Wellness Yoga classes consist of a deliberate blend of vinyasa flow and Iyengar precision, with a strong focus on correct breathing, postural alignment, mindful presence, and relaxation. These classes are suitable for anyone regardless of their level of fitness or flexibility.
The yoga classes at MYM Wellness are taught in a light, airy room with beautiful wooden floors. The room can accommodate six students comfortably, so it is important that you book before coming to class.
It is recommended to wear comfortable loose fitting and bring a towel to dry off with. All other equipment is provided.
Payment for casual classes is by cash only, or you can purchase a multiple-class pass using eftpos. There is no time limit on class passes, but they are non-refundable.

I have been practising mindfulness, yoga and meditation for most of my adult life, both as a means of maintaining my physical and mental wellbeing, and as a way of indulging my personal curiosity about the human mind and its relationship with the body.
I completed a yoga teacher training program at Byron Bay Yoga in 2014, and began teaching group yoga classes that same year.
I hold a diploma of remedial massage, a diploma of therapeutic massage, and a 200-hour yoga teacher certification. I am registered with Massage and Myotherapy Australia and the International Yoga Alliance. I am currently studying psychology at the University of New England.
